從資源基礎理論的觀點而言,核心能力是組織創造價值非常重要的關鍵。 然而,過去研究往往著重於核心能力的解釋及應用。隨著競爭愈形劇烈,藉由 員工發展核心能力與創造價值的思維應有所轉變,因為組織在創造核心能力與 價值上常常出現力有未逮之情況。歸結此一缺憾,常是因為員工缺乏身心安定 的支持力量,特別是在心靈層次的提昇。為填補此一研究缺口,本研究以單一、 縱斷面之質性個案研究,解釋優人神鼓此一優秀的表演團體,如何成功地經由 心靈層次的自我覺知修練能力,轉變成為組織的核心能力,進而融入其表演技 藝中,最後在心靈修練之基礎上,創造品牌、社會與教育等多元價值。在理論 貢獻上,本研究填補過去研究在發展核心能力時忽視心靈層面之研究缺口。在 實務貢獻上,本研究則強調組織在透過核心能力創造競爭優勢或創造價值時, 應能重視心靈修練對於活化核心能力之重要性。

English Abstract

According to the resource-based view, core competence plays an important role
to create values. However, prior research mostly focuses on the explanation and
application of core resource. Nowadays, the thinking of creating core
competence must be changed in face of dramatic business competition. Indeed,
firms’ growth is likely to appear bottleneck without spiritual discipline-based
core competency. To illustrate this argument, this study draws on a single,
longitudinal qualitative case study to explain how an excellent performing group,
U-theater, successfully creating brand, social, and educational values based on
self-consciousness to uplift spirituality discipline-based core competency.
Consequently, for theoretical contribution, this research fills the research gap of
ignoring the influence of spiritual aspect on the development of core competence.
For practice suggestion, this study addresses firms need to profoundly
understand and further apply possible spiritual discipline ways to activate core
competence for value creation.

Impact of R&D effort and R&D effectiveness on Firm Performance: An Empirical Study of the High-Tech Industry in Taiwan

資源基礎理論擁護者認為研究發展為公司重要資源,會影響經營績效的表現。但 是,迄今有關研究發展與經營績效間之關聯性研究尚未獲得一致的共識。本研究企圖以 實徵資料探究台灣高科技產業研究發展是否會影響經營績效,並驗證研究結果是否支持 資源基礎理論擁護者的主張。 樣本包括台灣生技醫療等 9 個高科技次級產業,計 357 家上市公司,涵蓋 2009~2016 等 8 個年度,公司與財報相關資料主要取自台灣經濟新報資料庫。運用 R 語言,透過 相關性分析、迴歸分析、迴歸診斷及穩健性檢驗等計量方法,以確認研究發展與經營績 效的關聯性。 研究發現有三,其一:台灣高科技產業研發投入與經營績效無顯著關聯性,意謂著, 台灣高科技公司研發投入並不會影響其經營績效的表現。其二:台灣高科技產業研發績 效與經營績效無顯著關聯性,意謂著,台灣高科技公司增加智財權(如專利)並不會影 響其經營績效的表現。其三:研究結果並不支持資源基礎理論擁護者的觀點,台灣高科 技產業研究發展與經營績效間並非正相關的關聯性。 在研究方法上,有別於前人研究鮮少著墨於迴歸診斷,本研究運用 R 語言有系統 的逐步完成迴歸診斷,得以補強前人研究之不足;另外,研究發現可以使得台灣高科技 產業高階經理人更深入瞭解研究發展與經營績效的關聯性,進而建立正確的營運認知。

English Abstract

The advocates of the resource-based view (RBV) argue that R&D is a critical
resource to impact firm performance, however, the relevant research has not
reached a unanimous consensus so far. This study attempts to explore whether
R&D will affect the firm performance of high-tech industries in Taiwan,
furthermore, to verify if the study results will support the point of views of the
advocates of RBV.
The study’s sample includes nine Taiwan’s high-tech sub-industries, such as
biotech & medical sub-industry. There are 357 listed companies, covered from
2009 to 2016. The required data of this study is mainly extracted from the
Taiwan Economic Journal (TEJ) database. R program is used as an assistance
tool to conduct correlation analysis, regression analysis, regression diagnostics
and robustness test for the design of this study.
Research findings include (1) the relationship between R&D investment and
firm performance of Taiwan’s high-tech industry is not significant; (2) the
relationship between R&D effectiveness and firm performance of Taiwan’s
high-tech industry is not significant; (3) the research results do not support the
proposition of the advocates of the RBV.
This study provides a close-up in regression diagnostics and robustness test
using R. It can provide as a reference template for the follow-up studies. The
results of this study can provide the up-to-date relationship between R&D and
firm performance about Taiwan’s high-tech companies, and provide the solid
cognition of R&D for those high-level managers of Taiwan’s high-tech
companies.

Exploration of the Adoption of Biometrics Applied in Consumer Electronics Based on the Engineer Perspectives

為滿足現今資安與隱私的要求,越來越多消費型電子廠商與業者開始 將生物辨識技術(Biometrcis)整合在產品之中,譬如蘋果在智慧型手持式裝 置導入指紋辨識,希望透過生物辨識技術提供更可靠和強化的個人認證。 然而生物辨識技術是一新興的尖端科技,因此探討研發者在導入該項技術 時的觀點變得非常重要。所以本研究運用三項外部變數來探討生物辨識技 術在消費型電子產品的導入,分別是生物辨識關鍵要素(key elements of biometrics)、生物辨識效能(biometric performance)、科技評估(technology assessment)。 研究結果顯示,生物辨識關鍵要素和生物辨識效能在研發者衡量導入 生物辨識技術時,極具有關鍵性。此外,科技評估明顯影響研發者對此項 技術的採用,由於研發者同時具有工程設計和消費者兩種觀點,可以更了 解影響生物辨識技術可行性的重要因素構成,研究亦指出其中消費者對於 生物辨識技術接受態度,可以促進生物辨識技術普及性。

English Abstract

To meet security and privacy challenges, many consumer electronics
companies and institutions integrate biometrics into their products. For
example, Apple launched iPhone 5S with fingerprint authentication. Biometrics
should offer dependable and robust recognition of an individual’s identity.
However, because biometrics is an emergent technology, exploring whether
engineers are willing to adopt it is critical. Therefore, we use three relevant
extrinsic variables, namely, ‘key elements of biometrics’, ‘biometric
performance’, and ‘technology assessment’, to explore the adoption of
biometrics in consumer electronics. The research results show that ‘key
elements of biometrics’ and ‘biometric performance’ play important roles in
engineers’ evaluation of biometrics in consumer electronics. Moreover,
‘technology assessment’ positively influences engineers’ intent to use. The
important factors affecting the feasibility of biometrics are extracted from both
the consumer and technique viewpoints of engineers, which could also present
opportunities to encourage consumers to accept biometrics in consumer
electronics.
